Quincy is a musical explorer of Life, a cellular automaton created by J.H.Conway and Quincy Lite is the full version for iPhone. Conway’s Game Of Life has long been of great interest to musicians specifically as a pattern generator. Quincy is a full implementation of Life, capable of generating all possible variations, the common B3/S23 as well as others like HighLife or Seeds. It is document-based and features adjustable grid size, random cell insertion and more. Quincy comes with a large library of patterns, a color mixer for a document’s color set and many display options. Editing tools beyond pen and pattern stamp also include options like copy, paste and rotate.
Quincy ships with three sound modules (Chroma, Gregorian and Pentrix) with more to come. Each module uses its own algorithm to create sound but also defines meter, key and a base scale as tone material. The Chroma module is geared towards atonal music with several symmetric and chromatic scales. The Gregorian module employs church modes and the Pentrix module offers 27 types of pentatonic scales.
There are two playback modes, audio and MIDI. In audio mode playback is routed through a devices speakers or headphones. This mode offers 128 instruments and adjustable reverb settings. MIDI playback is WiFi based so you can route Quincy’s output to any DAW like Logic or Ableton.
Quincy is very powerful and a joy to work with. You can create infinite variations on a theme just by coupling playback loops with random inserts or use it in performance mode with one-tap document switching and the ability to draw into the playing document without disturbing the original. Quincy renders stunning visuals, produces the craziest looking metronomes, very atmospheric soundscapes and strange rhythmic patterns that have many uses in music production.

BandMaster
BandMaster

£3.99
BandMaster is like having a whole band in your pocket. You get bass, drums and piano, great sounding samples and several styles for each instrument. Song creation is a snap with the available templates. Now you can practice on your own schedule and get that solo down for real.

Your songs are displayed in the song list from where you can launch the playback or edit views. The playback view displays your song's chords in a grid that scrolls down and highlights each measure as it is played. You determine the speed and number of chorusses as well as the style. If you like, you can also turn off any of the instruments. You can even have your band's logo as the background for the playback view.

New songs are created with one of the many templates available. These include exercises and Blues as well as Jazz standard forms of different lengths. Once created songs can then be edited in the edit view. This view gives you full control over the chords in your song. You can add and delete measures, transpose the song or switch to a different time signature. With the unique Expand to Form tool you can create any ABA or AABA form in record time.

A metronome might still come in handy, but practicing with BandMaster is much more to the point and more importantly much more fun and productive. Maybe you need to get a better handle on that Blues in Ab or a brief warm-up with Giant Steps. With BandMaster on your iPhone or iPod touch just pop in those earphones and get going wherever you are. Soloing is an art, but only practice makes the master and for that one should have the right tools.

Mozart 2 Pro
Mozart 2 Pro

£4.99
Learn how to read music in a game. Five minutes here - five minutes there and your reading will improve dramatically.

Mozart is a program designed to aid in the process of learning how to read music. It does that in form of a game. Once the game is started via the toolbar a stream of whole notes comes streaming from the right side of the screen. These notes have to be named in the order of their appearance with the current input instrument (i.e. piano). Once a note gets too close to the clef on the left side of the screen it disappears in a cloud of vapor and the player loses one life. For each note named in time the player gets one point or more depending on level. The further the game progresses the more notes will appear in this steady stream and their range will widen to potentially include many ledger lines above and below the staff. Once a player has depleted all his lives the game is over and he might receive a high score.

Mozart 2 introduces half and quarter notes, new game characters and updated graphics. It comes with 128 instrument sounds, improved clef handling and missed note highlighting. Level range and instrument pitch are now shown in music notation.

The Pro version includes 11 instruments, a new feature that allows repeating the previous game and supports playing the game with a class-compliant MIDI keyboard.

Designed for the beginning musician as well as the student or professional, Mozart is an excellent tool towards better reading in 12 minor and major keys, practicing Solfege, unfamiliar keys, clefs or just to have fun while learning.

Instruments
• Letters (C, D, E), Solfège (Do, Re, Mi)
• Banjo, Bass, Cello, Double Bass, Guitar, Mandolin, Piano, Viola, Violin

Features

• All major and minor keys
• All common clefs
• Grand staff option on iPads
• 128 instrument sounds
• Supports movable and fixed Do
• Adjustable tuning for all string instruments
• Support for left-handed players
• Missed note highlighting
• Training mode for range practice
